How New York taxes your paycheck
New York uses progressive brackets from 3.9% to 10.9%, after a standard deduction of $8,000 (single) / $16,050 (married). Some New York cities or counties add a local income tax; enter that rate in the calculator if it applies to you. New York City residents pay an additional 3.078%–3.876% city income tax and Yonkers a surcharge — enter the rate above. High earners face benefit recapture.
Federal deductions are the same everywhere: income tax on earnings above the $16,100 standard deduction (single) using the 2026 brackets, 6.2% Social Security on the first $184,500, and 1.45% Medicare on everything.
