About Utilgrove

Utilgrove is a collection of small, fast tools for the calculations and conversions people do every day: working out a mortgage payment, counting the words in an essay, generating a QR code, finding a date ninety days from now. Each tool does one job, loads in a fraction of a second, and works on any phone, tablet or computer.

Everything runs in your browser

Most online tools send what you type to a server, process it there, and send a result back. Ours don't. Every calculator, converter and generator on this site is written in JavaScript and executes on your own device. Nothing you enter — numbers, text, files — is transmitted to us or stored anywhere. Close the tab and it's gone. That makes the tools private by construction, and it also means they keep working on a flaky connection once the page has loaded.

How the tools are built

Each tool is written from scratch and checked against known reference values before it's published. Financial calculators use the standard formulas that banks and lenders use (we show the formula on each page), and every calculation function has automated tests that run before each release. When a tool makes an assumption — a 30-day month, a 365-day year, a particular rounding rule — the page says so.

Alongside each tool you'll find a short guide: what the tool is for, a worked example, and answers to the questions people most often ask. We'd rather you understand the number than just copy it.

How the site is funded

Utilgrove is free to use and supported by advertising. Ads are clearly labelled, never placed next to buttons or inputs, and never interrupt a tool while you're using it. We don't sell data, and we don't ask you to create an account.

Corrections and requests

If a tool gives an unexpected result, or there's a tool you wish existed, tell us. Bug reports get fixed quickly, and popular requests shape what we build next.
