How to convert images
- Drop one or more images onto the box (WebP, PNG, JPG, GIF, BMP, AVIF, HEIC where supported).
- Choose the target format: JPG, PNG or WebP.
- For JPG or WebP, set a quality; for JPG, pick a background colour to replace transparency.
- Click Convert and download.
Choosing a format
| Format | Best for | Transparency | Compression |
|---|---|---|---|
| JPG | Photos; maximum compatibility (every device, printer, form and app) | No | Lossy |
| PNG | Screenshots, logos, graphics with sharp edges or transparency | Yes | Lossless (larger) |
| WebP | Websites; photos and graphics in the smallest size | Yes | Lossy or lossless |
Rule of thumb: JPG when you need to be sure it opens anywhere, PNG when quality or transparency matters, WebP when file size matters and the destination is a modern browser.
Common conversions
- WebP → JPG/PNG — images saved from websites often come as WebP, which older software, some email clients and many upload forms reject.
- PNG → JPG — screenshots and exports are often PNG and unnecessarily large; JPG at 90 quality is typically 5–10× smaller for photographic content.
- JPG → PNG — when a form insists on PNG. Note it won’t gain quality; it just changes container.
- JPG/PNG → WebP — for websites; 25–35% smaller than JPG at equal quality.
- HEIC → JPG — iPhone photos for Windows users or upload forms (browser support permitting).
- GIF → PNG — a single still frame; animation is not preserved.
What conversion does and doesn’t do
Converting re-encodes the pixels in a new container. It doesn’t sharpen, restore, or add detail. Converting a lossy JPG to PNG makes a larger file with exactly the same appearance. Converting PNG to JPG loses transparency and, at lower quality settings, some detail — 90+ keeps it visually identical.
Metadata such as EXIF (camera model, date, GPS location) is not carried over, because the image is redrawn from pixels. That’s usually a privacy benefit when sharing photos.
Tips
- Batch convert an entire folder in one go — the same settings apply to every file.
- Need the image smaller too? Use the image compressor (it can convert at the same time) or the resizer.
- Want images in a document? JPG to PDF combines them into one PDF.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert WebP to JPG?
Drop the WebP files, choose JPG, click Convert, download. WebP is what many websites serve now, and this is the quickest way to get a format that every app accepts.
What happens to transparency when converting to JPG?
JPG has no transparency, so transparent areas are filled with the background colour you choose (white by default). Convert to PNG or WebP instead to keep transparency.
Can I convert HEIC photos from an iPhone?
Yes in Safari and any browser that can display HEIC (recent Chrome on macOS and Windows 11 with the HEIF extension). If your browser can't open HEIC, the file will show an error — try Safari or export from Photos as JPG.
Are my images uploaded?
No. Conversion happens in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server.
